What we believe
We believe in one eternal God, known to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He is the creator of all things including the universe of which our world is such a tiny part.
God (the Father) is bigger in every way than we can grasp, yet he is concerned about each and every human being. He loves and wants a relationship with each one of us. But God is holy – pure in every way – and so the bad stuff (sin) we do, say and think stands as a barrier between us and God.
God's ultimate solution was himself to become a man, in the person of Jesus (the Son). He not only showed us what God is like, in his love, mercy, justice and compassion but He provided the means of breaking down that barrier. He did this by paying the penalty, once for all, for everyone's sin.
The penalty for sin is death, and so Jesus died for us, executed on a cross around two thousand years ago. But because Jesus was without sin, death could not keep hold of him and he was raised from the dead – the event celebrated by Christians at Easter.
Having risen from the dead, Jesus returned to be with God but will come again at the time of God's choosing for the end of the world as we know it. But he has not left us alone. If we turn back and say sorry for our sins and put our trust in Jesus to bear the penalty for our sins in our place, we receive forgiveness and are able to start an intimate and personal spiritual relationship with God. As part of this, He sends his Holy Spirit to live in us and empower us to follow the way set for us by Jesus.
God has also shown himself to us through the Bible – "The Maker's Handbook" – written down by many different authors and brought together to guide Christians in their daily lives.
